Digital Advertising vs. Traditional Advertising

Compare Digital Advertising vs. Traditional Advertising

So you’re positioning your business in the marketplace. That’s awesome! It takes boldness to take a risk and put yourself (or your business) out there for the world to see.

But that’s just it isn’t it? HOW do you advertise your business? One of my favorite quotes is this:

Everyone has a plan until they get punched in the face
-Mike Tyson

Let me tell you! If you think you know what direction you are going with your advertising, get ready for the left hook because it’s going to put your business on its butt. It’s time to think about what you want to accomplish with that advertising.

Essentially there are 2 major advertising categories. Those are Digital Advertising and Traditional Advertising. Let me break that down a bit.

Digital Advertising:

  • Search Engine Optimization (SEO)
  • Google AdWords
  • Social Media Marketing (i.e. Facebook, LinkedIn)
  • Mobile

Traditional Advertising:

  • Television
  • Radio
  • Newspaper
  • Mailouts

Understand this, they both work effectively. The argument I would like to make to you is that you don’t want to choose Digital OR Traditional. The end goal would be to have Digital AND Traditional.

Why?

Digital advertising brings people to your business that are already looking for what you have to sell. If you sell Water Purification Systems and you run digital advertising, the ads will be placed in front of the people who are already looking for the product. At that point, you are simply competing with the other digital advertisers who sell the same product.

Traditional advertising gives you an opportunity to educate an audience on the need for your product and then call them to action to purchase it. The same Water Purification company now has a new audience of people who don’t even know they want your product. Now you get an opportunity to tell them why they do.

Take some time to think about your end goal and how these forms of advertising can help you grow your business.

Are you currently advertising in one of these areas? I would love to know how it’s working for you. Give me your feedback and let me know what you think.

Thanks
